How to divide portions when cooking the same thing?

When preparing meals together, you have two options to choose from – "by eye" and "precise". The first one is quicker and perfectly fine for starting out. The second one involves more dishes but is more accurate.

According to the "by eye" method, you first cook in a shared dish and then divide the portions. For example, if one of you has a handful of pasta and the other has two handfuls, you cook three handfuls and serve 1/3 of the total on one plate and 2/3 on the other. It's not a perfect division, but it will be sufficient if you're just beginning to change your eating habits.

With the precise method, you first divide the portions and then cook them in separate dishes. This way, you can measure the ingredients very accurately.
